Bath Remodeling: What Pays, What Doesn’t

A master bathroom that is expertly remodeled can provide you a great amount of pleasure and comfort. However, a poorly done bathroom remodeling can haunt you every single day. Bathroom is such a tricky place in your house as lots of things are crammed into a tight place, not to mention the dangers of having volumes of water coming through a leaking pipe or damaged faucet. And if you consider remodeling your bathroom, you should take effort to set a budget and a work plan that will keep you on track with all the jobs that need to be done.

What Pays

Hide the toilet. A functional master bath must not only be functional and stylish, but it must also be discreet. When remodeling your bathroom, consider hiding the toiler with either a room within your bathroom or behind the wall. You can also place a piece of furniture such as a dresser or an armorer, to create the necessary barrier without the expense of having a framed wall.

Choose appropriate surfaces. The surfaces of your bathroom must contribute to the aesthetics of your room. And as this part of your house is prone to abuse, porcelain tiles are something that you should consider using for your bathroom floors and walls. This type of material is durable and at the same time very easy to maintain and clean up. You may also want to consider using granite and other solid surfaces.

Splurge on the shower. These days, people begin to realize that they are able to spend less and less time in the bath tub. Although a Roman tub can be an exquisite piece in your bathroom, making use of the space to install larger showers complete with attractive shower heads, steam generators and body sprays is a wiser option, making each time you shower, a rather sensual experience.

Adequate ventilation and lighting. Molds and mildew can take a toll on your bathroom’s beautiful surfaces, and moisture can make them thrive all the more. Consider installing a humidity sensor that, depending on the amount of moisture in the air, will automatically turn on or off. Good bathroom lighting takes into consideration different layers of illumination. You can install different types of lighting fixtures with dimmer switches in order to adjust your bathroom lights depending on your mood or task.

What Doesn’t

Rushing the process. Remodeling a bathroom cannot be done overnight. So, you should have careful planning as poor planning can cause cost overruns in your remodeling project. Depending on the size and the scope of your remodeling project, it may take a few week or even several months to complete. The most important thing is to plan out your space properly so you can come up with a design that keeps the current major plumbing lines.

Scrimping on key materials. One of the most common mistakes in bathroom remodeling is cutting corners on the key materials. Do not be tempted of buying cheaper bathroom fixtures without considering the quality because in the long run, you will be spending more. Choose the key pieces for your bathroom carefully where you can save a few hundreds of dollar and at the same time enjoy the quality that you deserve.
