5 Unique Pieces of Furniture You Can Make Yourself
If you have done quite a lot of woodwork lately you might be ready for a more serious task – the one of making a couple of pieces of furniture for your home. Do not worry if you have not managed to come up with ideas by yourself as we have singled out a couple of projects that might just be what you were looking for. Make sure you check them all out, then grab your tools and get to work.
Tire Ottoman
It is no secret that old tires are one of the most toxic human waste. But the good thing about them is that they can easily be reused to make a stylish ottoman for your home. In order to do this, all you are going to need is an old tire, some MDF and rope. Cut the MDF into two circles around 55cm and screw them on both sides of the tire. Once you do that, take your glue gun and apply glue to rope. As you are applying glue you should press the rope to cover both MDFs and the tire. In order to obtain a perfect finish, make sure you start gluing at the middle of one of the MDF circles.
Road Sign Table
This is another great thing you can make yourself. Go to a junkyard in your town and there is quite a chance you will be able to get an old road sign. Talk to the people who work there about obtaining the sign for your project. Most likely, you will be able to get it for free or for a really low price. Once you obtain the sign you should also get some plywood that you are going to use to make the legs for the table. Feel free to come up with the leg measurements yourself, depending on what you are going to use the table for (coffee table, dining table etc.)
Window Coffee Table
Another thing you can use to make a nice little coffee table is an old window. You probably have one of these somewhere in your basement or you can get them cheaply at a flea market. You should also get some whitewood that is going to turn the old window into a real coffee table. Once you do that, you are supposed to build a frame with mitered corners and nail the legs to it. All that is left to do is to put the window inside of the frame. You can use a nail gun to attach the window to the frame properly.
Rubber Hose Chair
For this project you will have to get a rubber hose. If you do not have a rubber hose you can use, you can visit a local job site or a good-sized shop to get one. You will also need a plywood board you are going to use to build the base for the chair. Cut the plywood into two “L” shaped pieces of the same size. You can cut the leftovers in the middle of the plywood board into four wooden pieces which are going to be used as the legs for the chair. Attach two of those pieces to each of the “L” pieces. After that, drill some holes in the “L” pieces and pin the hose pieces at both ends.
Pallet Racking Closet
Another thing you can build yourself is a closet for your home. Building a wooden closet can be quite a difficult and time-consuming project. That is why you can use a pallet racking as a base for your new closet. Buying a pallet racking is also a less expensive alternative to ordering plywood for the whole closet. You should only get enough plywood to build the doors for your closet. If you have some old wooden pieces somewhere in your garage, you can use them as the door material if you want to save even more money. All you have to do is attach the doors to the pallet racking and make some extra shelves if you want to.
A good thing about all of these projects is that you can do all of them even if you do not have too much experience in building things yourself. Also, make sure you do not stop there. Always keep searching for some new pieces of furniture you can make yourself.
